MPhA Program Accreditation The Manitoba
Pharmaceutical Association evaluates and accredits individual continuing
education programs, conference programs and independent study programs. Accreditation ensures that the program is
relevant, accurate, and unbiased. The
MPhA uses the program accreditation guidelines established by the Canadian
Council on Continuing Education in Pharmacy (CCCEP), the national accrediting
body for pharmacy programs in Canada.
For information regarding the guidelines, please visit the CCCEP
website at www.cccep.ca. Failure to adhere to the guidelines may
result in denial or revocation of accreditation. ·
Information for Program Providers INFORMATION FOR
PROGRAM PROVIDERS Program Providers may apply for MPhA program accreditation by
completing the forms below and emailing to kmcintosh@mpha.mb.ca or
by faxing (204) 237-3468. A copy of
the presentation slides and participant evaluation form are required. MPhA also offers special services for
MPhA-accredited programs. Click here for more information on these services. Please allow at least two weeks for a
response to a complete accreditation submission. Please
note that if a program is intended for delivery to pharmacists in more than
one province, providers must seek accreditation from CCCEP. ·
Provider Accreditation
Application Form Pharmacists may apply for accreditation of Independent Study,
Didactic, and Preceptorship Programs by filling out the appropriate forms and
emailing or faxing them to the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association. Accreditation ensures that the program is a
quality learning experience. Please
see the information below for more details.
Pharmacists may submit learning activities
involving independent study and research for accreditation by the MPhA. Some examples of eligible learning
activities include: journal readings, the study and research involved in
preparing a health-related presentation for health professionals or the
public, and the study and review completed as a candidate for a certification
program (eg: Certified Diabetes Educator, Certified Asthma Educator). Please complete the form below
and email to kmcintosh@mpha.mb.ca or fax
(204) 237-3468. Please allow at least
two weeks for a response to a complete accreditation submission. ·
Independent Study
Accreditation Request Form Pharmacists may submit learning activities
involving instructional or educational programs relevant to practice that are
current and non-promotional/unbiased in nature. Examples of these programs could include a
First Aid or Communication Development course. Please note that if a provider had
previously requested MPhA accreditation for a program and accreditation was
denied, the pharmacist may still claim this program as a non-accredited
learning activity in the Learning Portfolio. Please complete the form below
and email to kmcintosh@mpha.mb.ca or fax
(204) 237-3468. Please allow at least
two weeks for a response to a complete accreditation submission. ·
Didactic Program
Accreditation Request Form The Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association has designated participation
serving as a Preceptor for pharmacy students, residents, interns and
technicians to be an accredited learning activity for pharmacists in
Manitoba. Pharmacists may document their significant learning experiences
personally gained through involvement in the preceptorship in their MPhA
Learning Portfolios and the contact time associated with the learning. For example, if the pharmacy student was
giving a case presentation and in preparation for that presentation the
Preceptor reviewed recent literature on the subject, he/she could then
document the time spent in researching the topic as an accredited learning
activity. The Preceptor would then
document in the Professional Development Log: o
that the learning activity was an accredited learning activity; o
that the learning activity was a preceptorship accredited by the MPhA;
o
the assigned MPhA accreditation file number; o
the reference of the individual articles reviewed; o
the time taken to review the articles, and o
the key ideas, thoughts, or learning points gained through the
learning experience. At the completion of the preceptorship, pharmacists may calculate the
total number of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) obtained through
participation as a Preceptor and enter this number on the accreditation
certificate. For the purposes of
calculation, involvement in one contact hour of an accredited learning
activity is equivalent to one CEU. The
accreditation certificate may be kept in your Learning Portfolio as a record
of your involvement as a Preceptor. Preceptorship of Pharmacy Students
through the University Structured Practical
Experiential Program (SPEP) Each type of year of pharmacy student preceptorship has been assigned
a unique MPhA File Accreditation Number and corresponding accreditation or
CEU certificate. Please click on the
